Mixed news in regard to a couple of our local Post Offices has recently been received by my team and me.
A year on from my meeting with Post Office representatives to discuss its future, the Trafalgar Square branch is to close permanently in December following the ending of its lease and the redevelopment of the premises. This news will come as a blow to local residents and small businesses alike who depend on the its services, not least around the busy Christmas period.
It is, of course, regrettable that no viable alternative to the branch’s permanent closure could be found, but I am encouraged by the Post Office’s commitment to re-establishing a presence in the area before long. Accordingly, I have already offered to assist wherever possible and I will be sure to keep residents updated on any developments as and when I receive them. Additionally, the Post Office has opened a public consultation on access to postal services in the area following the closure, and I should encourage as many of those affected to take part and have a hand in shaping future services.
On a more positive note, Marylebone residents will be happy to hear that a new branch of the Post Office is to open in the Fruit Garden on Melcombe Street in early November.
